Benefits of laser hair removal

Medical Devices

Benefits of laser hair removal:

  • Preventing hair growth for a long period, saving time and money
  • Preventing the appearance of pimples and bumps due to traditional hair removal methods
  • Preventing skin rashes and infections

Areas where laser hair removal is done

You can remove hair with laser on any part of the body, and the face, armpits, and bikini area are among the most commonly treated areas.

Laser Hair Removal Procedure

The hair removal is done by targeting the hair from its roots to damage the hair follicles. The light energy emitted from the laser device penetrates the skin layers, and the melanin substance surrounding the hair follicles absorbs this energy, raising the temperature of the hair follicles, leading to the destruction of the hair follicle.

Number of sessions needed

8 sessions spread over 4 to 8 weeks are generally sufficient for most body areas, and the session can take about 15 to 60 minutes.

However, all sessions must be completed to achieve the desired results, but you will notice a noticeable difference in hair growth even after the first session.

Risks of laser hair removal

  • Inflammation or redness of the skin immediately after treatment, which often disappears within an hour or two.
  • Feeling of itching in the skin.
  • Sometimes the hair may grow back slightly thicker after the initial sessions, but it will eventually disappear with the following sessions (this is usually more common in densely haired areas like the back or chest in men).

Is laser hair removal painful?

Laser hair removal is not completely pain-free, but there are some procedures that can be followed to reduce the pain, such as using anesthetic creams.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Laser hair removal can have some side effects but when done appropriately by experienced professionals in clinics, it is a safe process.

Is laser used for all skin and hair types?

It is used for all skin and hair types except white hair. None of the laser devices will be able to remove white hair

Old laser devices may not be able to achieve good and safe results in the case of dark skin, so it is generally not recommended to use old laser devices such as IPL and short wavelength lasers for dark skin.

In general, it is recommended to use YAG lasers for dark skin, as they have been proven to be safe and effective in removing hair in the long term. The long wavelength of the YAG laser allows the hair follicle to be targeted precisely, which reduces the damage that may affect the skin.

Contraindications for using laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is not recommended if you take certain medications, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because hormonal changes can affect hair growth, so it is not ideal for you to get treatment at this stage.

The laser cannot be used in the case of sunburn, tanning, dermatitis or acne. Therefore, before laser hair removal, you must wait about 4 to 6 weeks after treating the skin.

Tips before laser hair removal

It is recommended to shave the area from which hair will be removed about 24 hours before the laser session

This is to remove the portion of hair present on the surface of the skin, which in turn reduces the chance of skin burns, but still allows enough hair follicles to be seen to know where the laser will be used.
